A late Emily’s free-kick stunner was not enough as Wolves senior girls narrowly lost to Concordian Dragons 2-1 at the Wolves Den on a heated Thursday afternoon.
The game started evenly between both sides but it was the away side who looked slightly more threatening with some neat footwork down the wings. However, the Wolves defense managed to handle the threat well and looked likely to keep the score goalless at half-time.
The prediction fell short towards the end of the first-half though as Concordian scored two unanswered goals that gave keeper Ruby no chance. One from a wicked deflection and another one from an extreme goalmouth scramble. With minds full of frustration at half-time the Wolves determined to become more aggressive in the second-half.
The attack-minded plan in the second half got to a rough start as the Wolves looked too rushing and couldn’t seem to connect the passes together. But some stunning defense and clinch tackles at the back motivated the ladies to find a glimpse of comeback.
And with around 10 minutes to go in the second half, the comeback fire lit up as Emily’s STUNNING free-kick near the halfway line soared above the keeper’s height and skimmed under the crossbar. The ladies regained their confidence back as later on Ruby made some excellent diving saves to keep them in the game With the momentum on the Wolves’ side at the ending stage, the ladies pushed even further for an equalizer but sadly the time wasn’t enough to catch up.
The performance and the tenacity however was something that the ladies deserves to be praised as it was much better than the defeat against 107 before. The ladies look forward to their final home game against Regents in the Prachauthit Derby next Monday with a win!
