Movie Nights : Summer Edition

So you’ve been relieved of your school life for less than a 101 days of summer vacation and sometimes, you just need to take an hour or two off. Now for you, a selection of movies perfect for summer that you… well, find a way to watch it.

Title : The Huntsman – Winter’s War

Genre : Fantasy, Drama, Action, Adventure

Running Time : 114 minutes

Released : April 22nd, 2016

What It’s All About : If you haven’t watched Snow White and the Huntsman, good on you because I didn’t like that movie much. However this prequel and sequel (this is hard to explain) is exponentially better. I love Freya of the Frost, and I absolutely love the backstories involved. Watch Snow White and the Huntsman for some context, but watch this when you’re bored.

Rating : 5/7

Title : Me Before You

Genre : Romance, Drama

Running Time : 110 minutes

Released : May 28th, 2016

What It’s All About : I read the original book and although I’m ruining my ‘street cred’ here, I actually teared up a little. Okay, maybe a lot. It’s a story between a disabled man and a woman’s love with the most heart wrenching twist. It’s a bit predictable in my opinion, but I love it. It was under recent controversy due to it ‘promoting euthanasia for disabled people’ but honestly, I think this is amazing as a love story.

Rating : 6/7

Title : X-Men: Apocalypse

Genre : Fantasy, Science Fiction

Running Time : 147 minutes

Released : May 19th, 2016

What It’s All About : Yeah, we weren’t gonna go far down this list without this making an appearance. I don’t think I need to say much. If you haven’t watched it, go. Run. Find it.

Rating : 5/7

Title : The Shawshank Redemption

Genre : Drama, Thriller

Running Time : 142 minutes

Released : September 23rd, 1994

What It’s All About : It’s been top at IMdB for years, and I agree with that. It’s definitely not for younger crowds, and sorry it’s not exactly in 1080p, but it is amazing nonetheless. If you haven’t watched this movie, and are old enough for the content in it, check it out.

Rating : 7/7

Title : Room

Genre : Drama, Thriller

Running Time : 118 minutes

Released : February 4th, 2016

What It’s All About : It tackles more ‘not-for-children” issues, and if you really aren’t old enough, you wouldn’t be interested. But after reading this book after it’s initial publication, the story stuck to me as more than just something about crime. Heck, I even wrote a practice TOK essay on it. #DedicatedLad

Rating : 5/7

Title : The Walk

Genre : Adventure, Drama, Biography

Running Time : 123 minutes

Released : October 9th, 2015

What It’s All About : I won’t say I’m a daredevil of any kind, but this movie made me much more enthusiastic about trying the impossible in other areas of my life – and becoming a risk-taker. Also, it’s pretty sick because it’s a true story – some guy actually did this.

Rating : 5/7

Title : The Princess Bride

Genre : Fantasy, Adventure, Comedy

Running Time : 118 minutes

Released : October 9th, 1987

What It’s All About : It is another age old golden movie that I can watch constantly and not get bored of. It’s a mixture of adventure, revenge, romance, and comedy, making it a perfect production for when you’re feeling down or bored and just need some inspiration.

Rating : 7/7

Title : Finding Dory

Genre : Animation, Adventure, Comedy

Running Time : 103 minutes

Released : June 16th, 2016

What It’s All About : Yeah, it’s not out for a bit. But the hype and the wait surrounding it – man it has all of us crazed. The 90’s kids, I suppose. Or not. I have been kind of wishing for Dory’s death but I don’t think that will be tackled. The story itself will be amazing, I’m sure of.

Rating : Not Out Yet but anticipated 5/7

Hopefully this creates more sparks in your eventually dull holidays, and don’t forget to get some work done – especially if you’re in DP. Good luck, and have a great summer!

This is my opinion but I think Dory is going to be departed from the Marlin’s family, and live with her own at the end.
