What is your personal project?
“My personal project is based on the question of, “what do I want to be when I grow up?”, which is a question I get asked so many times during the past 15 years of my life, and the thing is, I don’t know. Therefore, for my project I am creating a career guide book for 10 different careers from 10 different sectors, so that I could know more about different jobs in detail. In order to do so, I did massive amount of research and conducted some possible interviews.”
Why did you choose to make this your project?
“I chose this topic because as I said earlier, I don’t really know what I want to do in the future. Also, I’m in grade 10 now and next year I have to choose 6 DP courses and that would be very important to my university courses. Don’t you think it’s kind of unfair that we come to school everyday, learn about many things from many subjects, but the school never really teaches us about the different jobs and what they are? I mean isn’t that what we have to stick with in the future and what our life will be depending on? So yeah, I feel like my personal project would open me up to these things that I can’t gain from school, which is why I chose this topic.”
What have you been enjoying?
“For the past 6 months I would say the best part of my project was to be able to interview people about their jobs. I think the stories I get from each interview I’ve conducted are so memorable and very interesting. Also, when I interviewed the people I was able to feel their passion towards their job and it just make the interview sound very inspiring and positive. After conducting the interviews I was kind of less stressed with trying to answer the question of “what do I want to be when I grow up”, because I feel like if one day I have chosen the wrong path, I can always change for the better. These are some of the ideas I got from my interview and it is very motivative! :)”
What have you not been enjoying?
“To be brutally honest, the part I least enjoy was the making of my product. Since my product was to make a book that summarizes all my research, I had to summarise information from 10 different careers sectors, and that was a massive amount of work to be done during the winter break! In the end, I got it done, printed it out and I’m actually happy with my outcome but not the process that I have to go through writing up the book.”
