Jealous – Labrinth
Year: 2016
Genre: Pop
Thoughts: I first heard Labrinth when he was in that song with Noah Cyrus and I was pretty impressed, so I decided to do some more digging and found this beautiful song. I love this song because you can literally hear the emotion in his voice and the music video is really simple so it doesn’t distract from the vocals. I thought that this song was amazing, especially because we don’t get to see that many pop songs with such raw and real lyrics. This song just hits me right in the feels.

Seeing Stars – BØRNS
Year: 2014
Genre: Alternative/Indie
Thoughts: BØRNS is an artist best known for his song called “Electric Love”, but I think this song definitely tops that. This song really shows his dreamy indie pop genre along with all of his musical talents, where you can actually here the individual instruments. The lyrics are pretty cheesy and cliché, but the music definitely makes up for it. I just love the dreamy and flowy vibe this song give off and it just makes me so happy. I generally listen to this song while daydreaming or just whenever I want my brain to have a break. If you ever wanna feel like you’re floating on a pink cloud with palm trees and kiddy pools on it, listen to this song.

Anything – Catfish and the Bottlemen
(I posted the live version because there’s no music video and I can’t find an audio sorry)
Year: 2016
Genre: Indie Rock
Thoughts: I’m just gonna state the fact that this review is gonna be totally biased before I start. This song is about the lead singer being stupid in love with someone and changing these little things about himself, dismissing things about his lover that would annoy the hell out of anyone else and overthinking everything he says before he even says it. I find all of it so cute! The music is also distorted and pretty upbeat which makes the song really fun to listen to. Oh and there’s also a super distorted guitar solo which isn’t that complicated but just sounds really cool. Yup, I think I’m done fangirling.
Rating 7/7 (I would give it a 9 but yea)
What Do I Gotta Do – Over Atlantic
Year: 2017
Genre: Pop
Thoughts: I swear these articles are ruining my street cred. But I’m still gonna analyze this song. Over Atlantic is a new pop band with a tiny punk twist, consisting of two British guys, two Americans and one Swedish guy. This song is their first single and is basically about the guys having a crush on some girl and not really knowing how to go on about it while trying to muster up the courage to ask the girl out. Once again the lyrics are very cliché, especially for a popish type of band, but I guess it’s fine considering this is their first single. Each member of the band is very talented at his instrument and this song definitely shows that. I especially love how the bass and guitar go together during the verses and how there is a lot of attention drawn to the bass, something which is uncommon in pop bands. Despite the cheesy lyrics, I think this is a pretty strong start for the band and I can’t wait to listen to more of them. I’m gonna stop myself right there because, although it’s deteriorating, I still have a reputation to uphold.
