The first week of AISAA season began with the Varsity and G10-U teams for both genders all demolishing Wells Seahawks at the Wolves Den last Wednesday and Friday respectively.
The Varsity Girls were the first side to take the field against Wells on an extremely wet and muddy field. Both sides struggled to create chances in the first-half as the puddles ruined the ball movements resulting in a goalless first-half with nothing but mud splashes. The second half saw the Wolves dominating the game as they continued to push forward in search for the opening goal, but most of the shots were well-saved by the Wells keeper or the ball just decided to stop right on the puddle in front of goal where it could have just rolled in instead. Late into the game Wells’ only chance in the second half scared the crowd following their counter attack but Mansi stood her ground well to catch the shot keeping the ladies in the game. With about a minute to go all the pressure paid off in dramatic fashion as Naomi brought the ball up forward on her own from about halfway line, dribbled past a couple of defenders, and fired into the net giving the Wolves a winning goal which would later seal them a fantastic opening day win.

Varsity boys kicked off right after the girls and the boys expected a tough game as they knew Wells was a tricky team to beat as they experienced last season. However, the floodgates opened as soon as the whistle blew as the boys continued to score and harass Wells defence as they struggled to get used to a wet pitch. By halftime, the game looked already over as the boys took a 4-0 lead. The second half was nothing different as the boys continued to tear apart Wells defence with lovely passing and movements ending the game with an annihilating 9-0 win as Budi grabbed himself 4 goals during the game.

On Friday it was the G10-Us who took the field against Wells as the Girls played first. Both sides were equally matched until Jindy scored a delightful lobbed shot into the top right-hand corner to give the girls a lead. The momentum was then completely on the young Wolves’ side as the girls continued to pressure in offense mainly through Jindy, Naomi, and Sejal but they couldn’t grab extra goals as the halftime whistle blew. In the second half, the girls looked much more confident going forward and they were rewarded with a handful of goals which included some brilliant individual skills, ball movements, and even a sweet set-piece routine. The game ended with a 5-0 win for the girls as the Seahawks Slay fest continued.

The last team to take on action was the G10-U boys team. Compared to other games, the first half was completely dominated by Wells as the Wolves struggled to adjust to fast tempo play from Wells. The boys managed to keep the score goalless at halftime though thanks to Kazu’s brilliant saves keeping the boys in the game. In the second half, the boys made a few changes to the line-up as Kazu played in outfield to offer additional attacking options for the team and put more pressure on Wells defense and midfield. The plan paid off in the end as the forward pressure by the Wolves allowed Denim to capitalize a mistake from Well’s defense then calmly slotted the ball into the back of the net to give the Wolves the lead. Later on, Kazu doubled the lead for the boys to give a 2-0 cushion. Despite late scares from Wells near the end of the game, the boys managed to keep a clean sheet thanks to key saves from Mehrab, in the end, giving the boys a 2-0 win and resulting in all teams sweeping the Seahawks throughout the week. Congrats to all the players for their fantastic performance and let’s hope the winning streak continues on next week!
