The Wolf’s Howl: ΛVICII

Avicii, Tim Bergling, Tim Berg, Tim Lidén, Tom Hangs, Timberman, ◢ ◤. These are the different names the Swedish musician, DJ and producer was known by.

He was (and still is) the hugest influence and inspiration to most – if not all – producers and music lovers throughout the world, including myself. His songs became my first venture into electronic music, and I can’t thank him enough for that.

And I still find it difficult to wrap my head around the fact that this legend was no more on the 20th of April, 2018. He was found dead in Oman.

In this article, we’ll be looking back at his greatest tracks (though all of his work is amazing in my opinion) and we will be celebrating the music of one of the few people who managed to change the entire course of electronic music in the past decade.

Thoughts: I’ve always saved this song for the days when I need a mood booster and it never fails to make one feel a bit better, no matter what. The video in itself is adrenaline-spiking to look at, considering that the song is about Avicii’s approach towards living life to the fullest. And I was truly inspired when I heard this in the song’s intro: “[…] when I die, I want to be remembered for the life I lived—not the money I made.”

Thoughts: Waiting For Love became quite popular in 2015, taking into account the number of views on YouTube and the number of times I’ve heard it play on loudspeakers everywhere. Well, this song deserves every bit of that. I mean, listen to the lyrics and then listen to the music. Then watch the video. What is not to love about it?

Thoughts: Of course Levels was going to be a part of this list. A true bop, this song.  Best for the times when you choose to work out or something. For me, this was sort of a breakthrough hit for Avicii, and it doubled as my introduction to this artist back in 2011.

Thoughts: 2013 had become a much better year after I heard this song and I mean that. The music sounded a little different from Avicii’s formulaic four-chord and bass structure. And to top that, there are the amazing dance moves in this video, which I can only dream of learning, so there’s that 🙂

Thoughts: A classic EDM anthem and a pop earworm at the same time. I would bet my entire collection of Sherlock Holmes (actually no, they’re way too precious) that every single dance music lover on Earth has jammed to this song at least once in their lifetime. If not, you’re seriously missing out. The video, the brass breaks, the lyrics, everything about this video give me a few too many feels each time I listen to this gem of a song.

Other hits include Wake Me UpLiar LiarSeek BromanceSilhouettes, I Could Be The One, Addicted To You, Lay Me Down, Without You and many more.

All things aside, even though he may be no more, his name will live on through his music. Forever.
