Look, we have another KIS Spotlight! Today: Ms. Shanell 🙂
First and foremost, what subjects do you teach and to whom (MYP and/or DP)?
Secondary Guidance & University Counselor; I also teach the G10 University Seminar course.
Next, what would you like or want all of us to know about yourself? (Just some basic details like where you’re from, what you did before coming to KIS, places you’ve been to/would like to visit, etc.).
I’m from sunny Los Angeles, California. I’ve served as a counselor for the past 13.5 years. Similarly, to KIS this is also a very special year for me, as it marks my 20th year in education.
Any hobbies, passions, interests that you like to indulge in?
I enjoy laughing, travel, reading, and visiting college campuses!
Any pet peeves at all?
Many…(LOL)
Have you enjoyed your time at KIS so far? How so?
Yes, very much so. The students are great and the entire KIS community has been very welcoming!
What do you love most about the subject(s) that you’re currently teaching? Have they always been of interest to you?
How much space do I have?! I can go on and on about my passion for college counseling. I love that the field is ever-changing which allows me to continue to learn and grow.
Lastly, would you like to impart any advice for students in the MYP or DP, or just all of us in general?
Use your time wisely…procrastination is NOT your friend.
