What is Service?
‘Service’ is one of the core aspects of KIS spirit.
DP Creativity, Action, Service:
- Creativity = A wide range of activities that involve creative thinking
- Action = Getting involved in physical exertion that contributes to a healthy lifestyle
- Service = Meaningful contributions to community and society
IB Diploma students are required to complete CAS in order to receive their IB Diploma.
MYP Service as Action:
Action (learning by doing and experiencing) and service have always been shared values of the IB community. Students take action when they apply what they are learning in the classroom and beyond. IB learners strive to be caring members of the community who demonstrate a commitment to service—making a positive difference to the lives of others and to the environment. Service as action is an integral part of the programme, especially in the MYP community project. (Taken from the IB Website)
At KIS, MYP students are expected to complete two service projects one year: one based on an individual initiative, and one based on a class initiative.
