Hello, people. Recently, I had an exchange with Dr. Mechum, and he was kind enough to answer all of the questions that I had to ask. Read on to find out more about him!
First and foremost, what subjects do you teach and to whom (MYP and/or DP)?
I am the Secondary Vice Principal. In that role, I teach PSHE for G6-10. However, back when I was in the classroom full-time, I taught Physics and Chemistry.

Next, would you like or want all of us to know about yourself? Just some basic details like where you’re from, what you did before coming to KIS, places you’ve been to/would like to visit, etc.
I am from the USA and lived in a lot of places there, but feel connections to Oregon, South Carolina, and Los Angeles. This is my second time living in Thailand – I taught at TCIS from 2000-2003. Since then, I’ve lived and worked in Bolivia, South Korea, back in the US for a bit, and most recently New Delhi, India.

Any hobbies, passions, interests that you like to indulge in?
Yes! I’m a musician (drums mostly – and believe it or not I used to be in a band with Mr. Dan Magie when I lived in Thailand before), I am into motorcycles and have done a lot of long-distance motorcycle trips and some motorcycle racing, and also I train in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………
Any pet peeves at all?
Not really.
………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………
Have you enjoyed your time at KIS so far? How so?
Yes! I’ve felt really welcomed into the community. This is a great place.
………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………
If you are new to Thailand, please tell us about how you feel being here.
Not really new – but it feels great, like I’m “home” again.
………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………
What do you love most about the subject(s) that you’re currently teaching? Have they always been of interest to you?
I think PSHE is great because it encourages socio-emotional introspection and reflection, which are incredibly important life skills. Plus I get to know the students in a unique and meaningful context.
………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………
Lastly, would you like to impart any advice for students in the MYP or DP, or just all of us in general?
Be kind to everyone, including yourself!

Hope you enjoy your time here, and welcome to our school! 😄
